Coolham Village Hall

Coolham Village Hall opened its doors around 1950 when the current building replaced a small wooden hall.

Coolham Village Hall  is a registered charity and is managed by the Trustees, operating as a Management Committee, all of which are volunteers and who offer their various skills and services to look after the fabric of the building, organise hirings and run social events for the village and surrounding areas.

Coolham is a very small village with few facilities.  With just a village pub, primary school and the village hall. As such, the hall is seen as a very important resource for the village community, and the management committee are determined to ensure that it remains fit for purpose.

We have a number of regular users, including a Montessori nursery school, Coolham Music Club and dog training classes. All of these provide social, creative and educational opportunities for the local community, and the management committee are dedicated to supporting as many of these as possible.

Developments

As the current building ages, like all buildings, it has needed repair and renovations. The hall receives no official funding of any kind, and is thus dependent on fundraising and grant monies to maintain it. The management committee has been active in both fundraising and in initiating a range of repairs and renovations.

We have been very fortunate in obtaining a number of grants from local and national bodies, notably £9,500 from Viridor, a £10,000 grant from Awards for All in 2008, and a £37,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund in 2010.

We have also received a number of smaller awards from local bodies such as the Gatwick Airport Community Trust, Horsham District Council, and the Grass Roots scheme.

The support of our hirers and grants, have helped us to continue to improve the facility.  In recent years, these have included:

  • Re-roofing of the entire building

  • Repairs to the drains

  • Resurfacing part of the car park

  • Disabled access at both front and rear of the building

  • Woodworm treatment

  • Insulation of the loft areas

  • Redesign of the garden areas, with gravelling to suppress weeds

  • Refurbishment of the main hall floor

  • New kitchen

  • installation of a dedicated disabled toilet

  • New curtains for the main hall and stage area

  • Purchase of new tables and chairs

In 2025 and 2026 we hope to carry out more improvements, which will include new toilet facilities, updated heating and lighting, complete redecoration and the installation of WIFI.
